Exploring Draenor: Rainfern Grotto

Exploring Draenor delves into the hidden places of the world that will one day become Outland. From the volcanic landscape of Frostfire to the gloomy dells of Shadowmoon, these articles are your guide to events that are off the beaten path.
Location: West of Zeth’gol, north of The Iron Front
Rewards: Weathered Memento Axe, Rod of the One True Podlord
We’ve squished through the rotting swamps of Zorammarsh. We’ve sweated in the ritual cave of the Bleeding Hollow. We’ve even uncovered a pirate den. Tanaan offers many chances to experience adventure, but places to relax and take in the sights are rarer than the chance to fight Xemirkol.
Rainfern Grotto is a gorgeous, peaceful area in the extreme north-west of Tanaan Jungle – make sure that you have ambient sounds cranked up high when you enter. The cave is illuminated by shafts of sunlight entering from a crack in the rear, through which water continually drips.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Warcraft without some danger. This beautiful cave is unfortunately inhabited by podlings, with their leader, Podlord Wakkawam, putting in an appearance every few hours.
All podling leaders seem to have a high opinion of themselves – see the podling ‘royalty’ of Shadowmoon Valley for an example. Wakkawam is no exception, with his unique item, the Rod of the One True Podlord, bearing a suitably arrogant name.
For all his airs, Wakkawam is an easy fight. He likes to limit players’ movement with Poisonous Stab, which probably makes sense for a creature with such little legs. However, he’ll then slow himself down with his only other ability, Thornstorm. Yes, you can do a Marrowgar impression while he channels it if you like.
After dispatching the podling, explore the rest of the cave. It’s a small area, but underneath a rocky overhang to the left you will find a treasure, the Weathered Memento Axe, buried in the headstone of a grave.
