6.2 Confirmed as Last Content Patch of Warlords

Cory Stockton, lead game designer on World of Warcraft, has confirmed that Patch 6.2 is the final large content patch of the expansion.

Speaking in an interview with Mamytwink, Stockton said:

It’s currently planned, and I think that’s the way we look at it – it’s kind of like the wrap-up. It’s hard to beat someone like Archimonde for a boss. As players know, I think he’s a pretty amazing guy to be able to fight. And I think it’s clear to people who have played the storyline…they saw Tanaan Jungle at the beginning of their experience, and now we’re kind of wrapping back around to it. Anything can happen between now and whatever we do next, but  we see it as that kind of pinnacle of where players are getting to.

Although Warlords has only had two raid patches/tiers, Stockton said that this may not be the case going forwards – they will use whatever fits. However, as Blizzard moves towards their goal of a shorter time between expansions, an obvious impact will that there will be fewer large patches.

The interview also covers many other topics, including the power of the Mage Tower to counter the long Shipyard missions (Stockton says that this has been tempered by the recent hotfix). Other topics include the legendary ring (raids aren’t designed around everyone having one, which should help re-rollers), Farahlon (it didn’t fit in this expansion, but may be included in the future) and – of course – flying. According to Stockton, players put together a lot of valid points that made Blizzard reconsider their decision not to include the feature in Warlords.
