Exploring Draenor: Overseer Mudlump

Exploring Draenor delves into the hidden places of the world that will one day become Outland. From the volcanic landscape of Frostfire to the gloomy dells of Shadowmoon, these articles are your guide to events that are off the beaten path.
Location: Hellfire Citadel courtyard
Reward: Spike-Toed Booterang
Draenor is littered with references to The Burning Crusade – they take place in the same geographical location, after all. It’s not just landscape features like Blade’s Edge Mountain in Frostfire Ridge, though – you will also find NPCs whom you adventured with (or killed) back in Outland.
One of these is Fel Overseer Mudlump. Anyone has has gathered Netherwing rep will remember him from that grind; back in Outland he is known as Chief Overseer Mudlump, and lives on Netherwing Ledge in Shadowmoon Valley (in classic Blizzard fashion, the orc is still dressed exactly the same, with a wide-brimmed hat and crystalline staff). Those of you who went through the Netherwing grind back in Burning Crusade, when it took many weeks, might get some catharsis out of killing him now.
Mudlump was responsible for one of the game’s most memorable quests: The Booterang. In this hilarious/sadistic mission, which referenced Full Metal Jacket, Silence of the Lambs and – a weird juxtaposition – Austin Power, you throw a show (sorry, a booterang) at lazy fel orc peons to beat them back into line. The quest can be accomplished while mounted, and the returning booterangs will never despawn – resulting in players being followed by a trail of as many as 20 flying shoes as they made their way around Netherwing Ledge.
The easiest way to reach Mudlump is to fly over the wall of the courtyard in front of Hellfire Citadel – no need to go through the raid portal. Even without flying (or a means to replicate it, like Aviana’s Feather), you can still get inside by climbing the rocks to the right of the portal and jumping in near the cannon. Of course, doing it this way means that you’ll need to fight your way through a small army of fel orcs.
At the very rear of the area you will find Mudlump, standing in front of the doors leading into Hellfire Citadel proper. He has 4.2 million health, and only two abilities: Booterang (obviously) and Kickback. However! Be aware that this is one of those few fights were melee players have an advantage over ranged, as Mudlump will only use Booterang on players who are not in melee. Seeing as this is by far his most damaging attack (dealing upwards of 70,000 damage to cloth users, on a very short cast time), I recommend standing in melee to fight him, if solo. He can still punt you to range with Kickback, of course.
