What sets it apart?

I was recently scanning through the most recent issue of Game Informer magazine and happened across an early review of Heroes of the Storm. I read the brief article and a single question kept nagging at me. They kept referring to League of Legends as their basis of comparison. From what I saw however, the only comparison to the new game from Blizzard would be that it is similar to a MOBA (Massive Online Battle Arena.) It is similar in the fact that it uses the top down view, features 5 on 5 combat and there are turrets. What sets Blizzard’s new take on the genre apart from the immensely successful RIOT games edition? I am happy to fill you in. As a casual player of LoL I can grasp the basics of the game and what makes it work and makes it break, at least for me. There is one single aspect of Heroes that is going to set it far apart from the pack and draw in even the most hardcore MOBA players and that is the goal system. You are no longer just charging lanes and hoping to rack up enough kills to get that next piece of armor that you need. Yes, I understand that this is still the case but hear me out. There are going to be goals or mini quests if you will.

Take the Blackheart’s Bay map for instance. You collect coins for the pirate Blackheart and the more coins you collect, the bigger a target you become. Successfully get those coins back to Blackheart however and he turns his cannons on the opposing team instantly turning the tide of war in your favor.

Or take on Dragon Shire which tasks players in not destroying towers but controlling the Obelisks of the moon and sun. Capture both and watch as one of your team members transforms into the unstoppable Dragon Knight and wreaks havoc and destruction across the map

These two are just the tip of the iceberg of what Blizzard has to offer when the game fully releases. Blizzard’s Heroes will be an objective based game on top of everything else that makes this genre so popular and that is what will set itself apart from the rest and possibly branch off and define what a Hero Brawler really is. I am very excited to get my hands on this and start battling it out.
