Overwatch Open Beta is Blizzard’s Biggest Yet – 9.7 Million Players

by - 8 years ago

Open beta has ended this week and launch is right around the corner on May 24th.

Curious to how the game did during the Open Beta? Well, it was Blizzard largest open beta ever (which is crazy considering how big Hearthstone is). More than 9.7 million players played the game during the open beta access across PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Participants played more than 4.9 billion minutes (over 81 million hours) across more than 37 million matches. Considering Open Beta only lasted between Thursday May 5 through Tuesday May 10th, that’s a lot of games and hours being played.

If you wanted some comparison to how similar popular games did in their open betas – Star Wars Battlefront had 9 million players, The Division had 6.4 million, and Destiny had 4.6 million. That puts Overwatch in some pretty good company and looks to be a very big hit for the studio come release day.

For those that participated in the open beta, what are your thoughts? Are you looking forward to May 24th? Or did the open beta turn you off from the game? Let us know in the comments!

Game is awesome, I already bought it. But, you guys need make more maps, some times the game gets boring because of repetition of maps. Only 12 is very little (3 maps for mod).
