Deck of the Week: Warrior Aggro
by JR Cook - 9 years ago show comments
This week I am highlighting another great deck made by MrYagut. If you’ve been listening to the Well Met Podcast recently you’ll know I had a pretty bad run in Hearthstone for a week and dropped down to around rank 13 after getting up to rank 7. This deck helped me get out of my rut and jump up to rank 5.
The meta at the time I was playing it though had shifted to midrange without a lot of taunt. This past week that has changed a bit so this deck might not be as good right now. I will say though that I was having great success against Zoo, Face Hunter, Priest Control, and Midrange Paladin. This deck does seem to falter though against Ramp Druid, Tempo Mage, and Control Warrior. Grim Patron Warrior is a bit of a toss up depending if you can kill them off before turn 8 or not. This deck does routinely win before turn 8.
The deck is full of burst potential. Your biggest threats are taunts (which you need to save your silences for) and Antique Healbot (or any other form of healing). The whole object of this deck is to go for the face. If you’re using your minions to try and gain board control then you have already lost. The only time you ever kill a minion with your own or with a weapon is if it’s going to secure a win for you next turn.

Mulligan
The cards you want to keep in your opening hand are Leper Gnome, Fiery War Axe, Bluegill Warrior, Bloodsail Raider, Loot Hoarder, Wolfrider, Cruel Taskmaster. I feel like Leper Gnome and Fiery War Axe are your biggest priorities though as they represent a strong turn 1, turn 2. If you have a coin definitely keep Death’s Bite and Dread Corsair – bonus points if you have both as that’s a really strong turn 3 with the coin.
Strategy
Like I said above. Go for the face. Try to save your Abusive Sergeant for when you can use him on a minion but don’t feel bad using him as a turn 1 drop unless you’re against mage. Try to save your Upgrade for a weapon but if you have a Dread Corsair or Bloodsail Raider and no weapons on your opening hand use it on turn 1 as your next 2 turns will be really strong because of it. Save your Arcane Golems as finishers. Remember, you can use your Cruel Taskmaster as minion removal if needed.
Played a few with this deck, it is a lot of fun. I am wondering about switching out Loot Hoarder for Shield Block, because of the extra health and card draw immediately instead of waiting for the minion to die. Also ran into a road block against a priest who could keep healing himself and used two Thought steals to grab an War Axe and a couple korkron elites…
I’ve been trying it out for a few days and I’ve been enjoying the deck, definitely a fun deck to play with (I usually play around with druid or mage decks)
