Last year with the release of Diablo 3 there was a small comic miniseries that Blizzard put out there with writer Aaron Williams and illustrator Joseph Lacroix called “Diablo: Sword of Justice”. The story was released in 5 comic books issues and took place 20 years after the events of Lord of Destruction and centered a bit around what was happening in the Dreadlands and Arreat Crater. The main character, Jacob, receives some visions of an ancient prophecy from Tyrael’s Sword and eventually leads him to the archangel himself.
Much like the novel “The Order” written by Nate Kenyon, the comic book series was meant to bridge a gap between the 20 years between the end of Diablo 2 and the beginning of Diablo 3.
Aaron Williams is one of my favorite comic artists/writers, but the stuff I really like from him is his comedy – so to see his take on a world like Sanctuary was rather interesting. I know in my past talks with him he was not the original writer of the series and had to come in later on and clean some things up – it’s still a decent story though. The artwork however is fantastic, especially in a world like this. Joseph Lacroix’s visuals are top notch.
The trade paperback book is currently on pre-order from Amazon for a measly $10.67 and well worth the price if you missed out on the original mini-series.
