Hearthstone Announces 2021 Masters Tour

by - 4 years ago

This morning, Hearthstone Esports announced the first phase of this year’s esports system: the Masters Tour stops! The system includes six Tour Stops (two per non-China region), this time named after locations in Azeroth, instead of locations on Earth. The first Tour Stop, Masters Tour: Ironforge takes place in mid-March, and the qualification period starts next week (and is only one month long)! The system has also been redesigned to make ladder twice as relevant; makes prior Masters Tour performances much more important (to reward consistency in Swiss rounds instead of just spiking a tournament); and leaves space for third-party […]

by - 4 years ago

This morning, Hearthstone Esports finally announced its announcement for this year’s esports system. In that announcement, they announced that they would announce the details of this year’s system at some point next week: The heads up is more than just for hype-commencement or “announcement of announcement” memes, however, as even this initial pre-announcement already establishes one change coming with this year’s system: this time, it will be the top 32 ladder positions in each region that earn invitations to that season’s Masters Tour (as opposed to only top 16 last year). So ladder grinders, get out there and start grinding! […]

Jerome “Monsanto” Faucher is a character, there’s no denying that. From his distinctive hat, to his sarcastic interview responses, to even his lineup choices, Monsanto has been known for some time as the quirky pro. To that end, his Hearthstone Esports nickname, “The Comedian,” just seems so right. This week, right after all the decklists were posted, I sharpened my wits, donned my fedora, and sat down with the Grandmasters Season 2 Champ to talk about his role in the Hearthstone community, his preparations for this weekend’s World Championships, and the existential dread that haunts us all. You know, the […]
