Activision-Blizzard Investor Call: Titan Unlikely a Subscription Based MMO

Today was the quarterly Activision-Blizzard Investor Conference Call and like past calls Mike Morhaime had a few interesting things to say and it ended up being in relation to their next gen MMO code named Titan.
Morhaime made mention that Titan is in the process of going into a new direction (which we posted about here a couple months back) and they are currently re-envisioning what they want the game to be. He did mention that they have done this with other games in the past that have been released and it is all part of their process of developing genre-defining games.
We also had known that several members who were working on Titan had been moved to other times and Morhaime said they were moved specifically to World of Warcraft, Diablo III, and Blizzard All Stars.
The really big news however is that Morhaime revealed that Titan is not likely to be a subscription based MMO. That fact alone actually isn’t all that surprising as the subscription based MMO system is becoming a bit of a dinosaur as “free to play” games have been gaining more and more popularity and are also making game companies a lot of money. Now, this certainly does not mean that Titan will be “free to play” in the traditional sense but the possibility is certainly there.
Morhaime also said that the World of Warcraft subscribers are down to 7.7 million but we learned that last week when Activision-Blizzard bought themselves away from Vivendi.
