Blizzard Working on Remasters for Diablo 2, Warcraft 3

by - 7 years ago

Blizzard is releasing a Remastered version of StarCraft this summer. It’s also known that they have a classic game team that is working on updating their other titles and in recent interviews it was said if things go well with Starcraft, they would be looking at their other titles if it made sense.

Well, it seems it’s more than just looking at this point as Blizzard is actively hiring Software Engineers to make this happen. While they haven’t officially announced anything, this job description all but sums it up:

We’re restoring them to glory, and we need your engineering talents, your passion, and your ability to get tough jobs done.

If you like wearing many hats, know small teams are the most effective, and look forward to challenges that will create millions of new adventures for our players, we would love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Implement server infrastructure changes to support new gameplay features.
  • Improve architecture design to reduce operation cost
  • Create conditions for experiences that look as good as they play.
  • Own implementation and curation of features new and old.
  • Diagnose and fix all the things: crashes, deadlocks, overflows, heap corruptions, etc.
  • Implement, maintain, and own infrastructure for the Diablo franchise

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of C / C++
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in development
  • Experience with client / server architecture
  • Experience debugging unfamiliar code
  • A mind towards scalability and performance
  • Passion for games
  • Excite us

Pluses

  • Linux development experience
  • Database experience (e.g., MySQL, Oracle)
  • Distributed systems experience
  • Cloud technologies (AWS, VM’s, Openstack)
  • Low level network knowledge and diagnosis including packet capture (e.g., tcpdump, wireshark), routing, firewalls, DHCP, DNS, and NAT busting

The biggest piece of this whole job description is the fact that it mentions StarCraft, Warcraft 3, and Diablo 2 – and then goes on to say they are restoring them to glory. If this isn’t a confirmation on Blizzard’s plans for the future for a Diablo 2 Remaster and Warcraft 3 Remaster, then I don’t know what is.

    Senior Producer, Classic Games
Is your idea of click bait a pillar of amber light reaching towards the heavens? Do you remember the paradigm shift that accompanied Diablo II’s 1.10 patch? Do you have a spreadsheet comparing the Necromancer between Diablo II and III? Do you think leaders should have some dirt under their fingernails?
Classic Games is seeking a senior producer to help drive our Diablo titles.
