Josh Mosqueira Has Left Blizzard Entertainment

Following up on a recent story we published regarding Blizzard seeking a Game Director for an unannounced project in the Diablo universe, we have just been informed through a Polygon article covering the same news item that Josh Mosqueira has left Blizzard Entertainment. You should be familiar with this name, as Josh stepped in for Jay Wilson as the Game Director on Diablo III shortly before the announcement of Reaper of Souls at Gamescom 2013.
Polygon states that they received an email confirming Josh’s departure:
In an email to Polygon, Blizzard confirmed that Mosqueira has stepped down as director of Diablo 3 and is no longer at Blizzard.
“With Diablo III in a good place at this point, Josh felt that now was a good time to pursue other opportunities with minimal impact to the team,” Blizzard said in an email. “We’ll be filling the director role either from within Blizzard or externally.”
With a bevy of positions popping up on the Blizzard Careers page for this unannounced project and several marquee names that worked on Diablo III leaving Blizzard recently (Leonard Boyarsky, Jay Wilson, Brian Kindregan), it certainly seems that a vast amount of change is afoot. This news could fuel further speculation that this next project is indeed a brand new game ala Diablo IV rather than an expansion to Diablo III.
Josh also tweeted later in the evening to say thanks and goodbye:
Thanks to an amazing team and community! Forever #diablo

Hop into the comments to wish farewell to Josh and let us know how you feel about this shake up.
Wow! I’ll go first and speculate that Josh may have pitched to get the unannounced Diablo project lead. Whatever the reason, he did a great job in pulling together a creative team that refined D3 into a very rewarding and engaging game.
Truly, Josh put so much passion into his work, encourage team to make Diablo 3 better. Thank you so much.
And i am afraid of lost such experienced leader. Why would we forget all the lessons of the past and start from square 1.
I wonder where diablo is heading now with so many people from the team leaving and the different turns they take each patch….
Diablo 4 is looking more and more likely. It makes sense for them to move on with the franchise since Diablo 3 and RoS have shown that it’s still a huge money maker for them. Wouldn’t make much sense to abandon it.
**With Diablo III in a good place at this point`**
im sorry.. WHAT ?? The game is dead !?
I think he means from a game play perspective. The game has enough features now and they probably don’t want to put anymore major development time into it.
