10 Cards in Festival of Legends That You Should Craft Day 1

by - 2 years ago

Don’t you hate those clickbait listicles? You look at the title and go “ugh another one?” Sure enough you click it and read it all the way through while being a little upset that this tactic worked again. The internet right?

Anyway on a completely unrelated note here are the 10 cards in Festival of Legends that you should craft RIGHT NOW! This definitely won’t come back to bite me in the ass.

10. Cage Head.

Cage head is an absolute blast of a card to play. Death Knight seems well positioned to remain at the top of the charts. It isn’t losing a SINGLE card. That means it goes from being one of the best classes to… well… the best class. At the very least it has the most flexibility in deck building. Combining Cage Head with both locations and Death Growl is just fun to. Do I see this combo seeing a bunch of play? Maybe not… but the fun factor here is so high that it earns an honorary spot.

9. Symphony of Sins.

Name a more iconic duo than warlock legendary spells and game breaking effects. Peanut butter and jelly? Sure. Me and exaggerating? Sure. My cohosts on Blizzlet and trying to talk about anything other than Hearthstone. Fine I get it. Okay there are a LOT of things that are more iconic… but still this card is bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. On its own it’s a very valuable spell that allows for an obscene amount of flexibility and power. Combine it with what warlock does best, which is survive, and it can allow for some bonkers things.

8. Heartbreaker Hedonis.

This card is just fascinating. The amount of  healing in priest makes this card an immediate power house. Right now most of the decks that use this are around tier B/C. So why would this card make the list? Because priest is only going to get more and more healing spells which in turn make this card stronger and stronger. I’m 100% confident that this card and an overheal deck will see major play. Even if it isn’t THIS expansion. It’ll come.

7. M.C. Blingtron.

What a delight. Rogue loves pinging for damage here and here and here and OOPS you’re dead sorry. By combining this card with Beatboxer and if you can clear your opponents board… then they take 8 damage from each beat boxer. Bounce it back and forth four times BOOM lethal. That’s Magic Christmas Land, but it’s also attainable.

Play MC Blingtron on five. On turn six serrated bone spike, beatboxer, shadow step, beatboxer, shadow step, beatboxer. That’s 24 easy damage. Later in the game you could combo off for lethal rather than just tempo. MC Blingtron on 8. Turn 9 play the following: Prep, Beatboxer, Beatboxer, Bounce Around (Ft. Garona), Beatboxer, Beatboxer, for 32 damage on an empty board. Add in double shadow step and you’ve got even more.

Magic Christmas Land? Sure. Will I continue to refine it forever. Also yes.

6. Jive Insect!

Okay this is 95% for the laughs and 5% because the combo is amazing. Play Jazz Bass and then play five overload cards between when you play it and turn 8, which is roughly one overload card a turn. Then on turn 8 you crack Jazz Bass to reduce Jive Insect to 0 then play Criminal Lineup and BOOM you’ve got four different Ragnaroses. Ragnarosen? Ragnaroxen? Raggamuffins? Rags. Four different Rags.

5. Mister Mukla.

Now we get into the areas that I genuinely think are powerhouse cards. One of the major issues with regards to King Mukla was that while you had a bunch of stats the bananas were largely positive for your opponent. What’s more is that your opponent got to manipulate their stats before you got to use Mukla’s. This card solves both negatives. The rush means you get to take advantage of those stats immediately and by “filling” your opponent’s hand it causes them to burn at least one card which is a disadvantage. This card is great.

4. Tony King of Piracy.

YOU WOULDN’T DOWNLOAD A CAR WOULD YOU?! Wait sorry. Wrong pirate. Anyway this card is nuts. You can combine it with Druid and Jailer for an impressive turnaround or throw it in Warrior and The Fires of Zin-Azshari and BOOM their deck is useless. Throw in a Steamcleaner on top and now their deck is completely gone. Delightful. Those are only the first few decks that have been popping up and no doubt they will continue to get refined.

3. Halveria Darkraven

Very rarely is there an aggro legendary that really lives up to the hype. If this was a four mana 4/3 that read “Battlecry: Give your minions +1 attack” that’s not a bad card right? Add in rush? Ohh now we’re spicy… what’s that? It’s not just +1? It’s actually +1 anytime it attacks? Wow okay… OH ITS NOT JUST THAT?! Wait it’s EVERY rush minion? Holy cow… yeah this card is nuts. I’m crafting it day one no matter what.

2. Rowdy Fan.

Now this is a common so it’s more a “wait until it gets nerfed” rather than “craft it day 1.” This feels very similar to Evil Miscreant back in the day. It’s a 3 mana 1/5 that provides immediate impact on the board. The best way to evaluate if a card is busted is to make it worse and see if it’s still playable. Does this see play at a 3 mana 1/4? Yeah I think so. It’s essentially 4/4 worth of stats, but more immediate and targeted. Does this see play at 1/3? Probably not. Whatever you do don’t dust this card. No doubt in my mind this is getting nerfed at some point this expansion. Then you can get eight times as much dust! Talk about Value Town am I right?

1. None.

Alright here’s the real truth. You shouldn’t craft anything on day one. I’ve no doubt that you’ve heard people claim cards are insanely strong only for them to be… nothing… I once said that this card was a meta breaker.

We all have made mistakes.

Now if you’ve got extra dust I think each of these cards are genuinely fun to play with and craft. If you’re short on dust and are more of a budget player take extra caution. On that note try and avoid the mass dust button on day one. Or dusting anything day one. You never know what will be nerfed.

If you’re dust dry don’t worry. There are going to be aggro decks without any legendaries on day one that will be just fine. There will be decks that seem insane on day one that won’t go anywhere. On day one remember an important rule: Craft for fun. Not for power.

Looking for other fun crafts? I’ve written several articles about Festival of Legends and the last one comes out tomorrow!
