Battle.Net Shop Now In Beta, Gifting Keys to Friends Available

Not to be confused with the Blizzard Store, the Battle.net Shop is now live, though still bearing a beta tag. The Battle.net Shop offers only the in-game services and goodies that you could expect to find within your Battle.net account page, such as World of Warcraft character transfers, pets and mounts, and Starcraft 2 name changes. You are also able to make digital purchases of all Blizzard’s current games. As of right now it’s very heavily focused on WoW since it offers the most in terms of digital purchases, but if any new features are added to new games they will likely end up here.

The new shop uses the visual layout and style that we’ve seen more recently in the desktop client, which I personally find pretty appealing. But it’s not just window dressing: it’s also handy to be able to get to things such as WoW services without having to go through all the hoops and such like the previous setup, however, you can still access them via your Battle.net account page if you desire.

Being able to gift to players is now available. So far this only seems to work for World of Warcraft and it’s pets, mounts, and items. For those wanting to gift Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm, and Diablo III to friends, you will need to wait a little longer as that currently is not implemented yet.

For now, at least, the Battle.net shop is being kept distinctly separate from the Blizzard Store, with a link to the “Merchandise Store” appearing in the menu. However, this could indicate that the Blizzard Store’s role may be scaled back to just merch, since there is some overlap in the services offered.
