The New Co-Op Commander Is Fenix, Get Hype

During a livestream event over on the official Twitch, Lead Co-Op Designer David Sum and the notorious Nathanias (Nathan Fabrikant) revealed that the new co-op commander will be the Steward of the Templar, Praetor Fenix.

Fenix can jump between three different modes as a unit on the field: he can spawn in his unique Praetor armor, a modified Dragoon, or an Arbiter, all of which have unique abilities and unique health/energy bars, and you can spawn him anywhere you have vision. So he’s definitely a unit on the field

Praetor has a charge ability with a stun; a whirlwind ability for wave-clear; and a shield capacitor, which recharges his shields to full at the cost of energy.

Solarite Dragoon is an offense oriented build with a beam attack and a wider AoE beam strike which are both delimited by cooldowns. The Dragoon has a final ability that removes the cooldown from those other abilities for a limited time, allowing Fenix to just LAY WASTE to everything around him.

Arbiter can drop a stasis field to stun enemies; he has a cloaking field he can use to mask himself and his allies that depletes energy; and finally, Recall, which lets you port in all of your troops to Fenix’s location.

His units are shells for the AI spirits of various hero Protoss. You build these shells for a 20% discount from the normal units, and the Champion iteration is an empowerment that affects one of those shells at a time. When the empowered shell dies, the empowerment moves to another nearby shell.

  • Kaldalis: Zealot champion with a leap and a cleave ability
  • Talis: Adept champion with invulnerable shades that can spam attacks, and a bounce attack that eventually debuffs enemy units.
  • Taldarin: Immortal champion with a pull shot that draws enemies in as it hits
  • Warbringer: Colossus champion with a slow beam that decays attack and movement speed.
  • Mojo: Scout champion with an air AoE stun attack.
  • Clolarion: Carrier champion that can also drop AoE bombs on the ground, with a beam attack he can use against other air units.

So in terms of Fenix’s kit of being dead heroes that are constantly being brought back to life to continue fighting the enemy… yeah, I think Blizzard delivered.

More information as it comes up. Stay tuned.

    He’s not called Fenix anymore.

Yes and no. When you play Fenix in coop, you actually have an upgrade in the forge called: I wish not to be called fenix anymore. Then when the upgrade is done in the coop mission, you hear fenix say: I am now talandar (or something along these lines). S they sell him as Fenix, because its during you coop mission that he changes his name to talandar
