Day 1 of BlizzCon 2013 is a wrap, and it was a great one. After skipping a year, this BlizzCon was eagerly awaited by Blizzard fans, and it did not disappoint. The first day brought a flurry of announcements for Diablo, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, and World of Warcraft.
BlizzPro’s own Chris Arnone shares his impressions before the official start of the convention:
Diablo III – Reaper of Souls
Blizzard released a new trailer and additional game play footage. In our recap, we cover the new adventure mode, new monsters and environments, and game play enhancements.
Hearthstone
The legendary minion included in the virtual ticket goodie bag is an Elite Tauren Chieftan, granting both players the “Power to Rock”. The Hearthstone fireside chat revealed that some priest and hunter minions will receive a slight nerf for balancing reasons, Arenas will see three additional keys in upcoming patches, and the developers are looking to clarify the ranking system. We will discuss all of the updates in our upcoming episode of HearthPro Show.
Heroes of the Storm
Blizzard officially introduced Heroes of the Storm today, featuring major playable characters from over 20 years of Blizzard history. The game will be another free-to-play offering, but players can personalize their experience through unique heroes, skins, and mounts.
World of Warcraft
The title of the next expansion, Warlords of Draenor, was spoiled early on, but that did not take anything away from the main announcement of the expansion. The trailer revealed new zones, a level cap of 100, new player models, and garrisons, the World of Warcraft implementation of player housing. Warlords of Draenor will take us back to Outland and back in time.
I have to say that the WoW information, left something to be desired. I have to admit that some of the features announced, are things that people have wanted for awhile. And it is nice to see Blizzard adding these things. However, at the end of the panel I had this feeling of, “all of this is nice, but so what?” It just felt like something was missing. It is hard to explain. I don’t think the expansion looked terrible, but I do have a feeling of emptiness almost. I have not played Wow for awhile, but there were even aspects of Mists of Pandaria, that got me excited. And I just didn’t get the same excitement feeling from this new WoW expansion.
