Hearthstone Patch 36.4 Brings Four New Class Sets and Mythic Kel’Thuzad
by JR Cook - 1 month ago show comments
Patch 36.4 is here, and it’s packing more than just balance tweaks. This update introduces four new Class Sets under the Azeroth’s Most Wanted banner, a new Arena season, and Hearthstone’s most ambitious Mythic Hero Skin yet. There’s also a free event running through mid-September with packs and cosmetics up for grabs, plus the return of the World Championship Tavern Brawl ahead of BlizzCon 2026.
The new Class Sets cover Priest, Rogue, Warlock, and Warrior, each with seven cards built around fresh archetypes like Reborn Priest, Stealth Rogue, Kabal Warlock, and Pirate Warrior. These sets also introduce Follow cards, a new mechanic that ties into the Escape from Violet Hold storyline. Each set includes one Legendary, two Epics, two Rares, and two Commons, and they’re all pullable from Escape from Violet Hold packs or craftable with dust.
Class Sets and Bundles
You can buy individual Class Sets for 1,200 Gold or $9.99 USD, or grab all four in a bundle for 2,500 Gold or $19.99 USD. The bundle also throws in two copies of the bonus Wanted Poster Epic card and the Bounty Hunter Edwin Hero Skin. There’s a Golden version of the bundle available for 12,000 Gold or $79.99 USD that upgrades all cards to Golden quality and swaps the Wanted Poster cards for Signature versions.
Arena is getting a refresh too. The new season includes Standard cards from Escape from Violet Hold, CATACLYSM, Across the Timeways, The Lost City of Un’Goro, Into the Emerald Dream, and the Event Set. The Azeroth’s Most Wanted Class Sets will appear at a boosted rate, so expect to see those new archetypes more often during drafts.
Rulebreaker Revelry Event and Free Rewards
The Rulebreaker Revelry event runs from August 25 through September 15. Complete event quests to progress along the reward track and pick up a Golden Escape from Violet Hold pack, one Class Pack for each of the four new Class Sets, two random Epic cards from Escape from Violet Hold, the Get-Away Zeppelin card back, and an Escape Coin. It’s a solid haul for anyone looking to round out their collection without spending gold or cash.
The World Championship Tavern Brawl is back from September 9-16, timed to the 2026 Hearthstone World Championship at BlizzCon. You’ll get to pilot decks from past World Champions, including Firebat’s Face Hunter (2014), Ostkaka’s Patron Warrior (2015), and last year’s champion XiaoT’s Discover Hunter (2025). Any cards that have been changed since the original deck was created have been restored to their original state, so the decks play exactly as they did during their championship runs.
If you’re looking to level up your setup for ladder grinding or tuning in to the World Championship, the Logitech G Pro X 2 Lightspeed is a pro-grade wireless headset used by esports players worldwide. For long sessions, the Secretlab Titan Evo offers premium lumbar support that’s popular with streamers and marathon gamers.
Lich Lord Kel’Thuzad Mythic Hero Skin
The big cosmetic reveal is Lich Lord Kel’Thuzad, launching September 8 as part of the Darkmoon Faire Treasures system. This is Hearthstone’s most feature-rich Mythic Hero Skin yet. It works for both Mage and Death Knight and includes two swappable appearances: The Necromancer and The Lich. You can switch between them during your turn using the Transform option on the Emote Wheel, complete with dramatic visual effects and custom animations.
The skin also comes with The Phylactery, a reactive board-corner feature that gathers power as minions take damage and die. As it fills, it fuels custom Hero Power presentations for Frostbolt (Mage) and Raise Dead (Death Knight). The Phylactery sits in the corner of the board and gets replaced by your Pet if you have one equipped. Beyond that, the skin includes a custom portrait, entrance animation, victory and defeat sequences, visual and sound effects, and board interactions. Blizzard teased “even more Kel’Thuzad-themed fun” coming in Patch 36.6, so this might not be the last we hear about the Archlich this season.
There are also new bundles in the Battle.net Shop starting August 25, including the Legendary Mob Boss Valeera Bundle (available one week before its in-game release), the returning Legendary Sylvanas, Ranger General Bundle, and a combo bundle featuring both sisters.
