Diablo 4 Secret Cow Level Finally Discovered After Years of Searching
by JR Cook - 1 month ago show comments
The Diablo 4 community has been hunting for the franchise’s traditional secret cow level since launch, and after nearly two years someone has finally found it. YouTuber LoatheBurger posted a walkthrough earlier this week showing exactly how to unlock the moo-sterious dungeon, though you’ll need the Lord of Hatred expansion to access it.
The unlock process is predictably convoluted (this is a Diablo secret after all). You’ll need to gather specific items scattered across Sanctuary and complete a series of steps that the community likely would have stumbled onto eventually, but credit where it’s due for being the first to crack it. The expansion requirement explains why nobody found this sooner, the necessary items and triggers simply didn’t exist in the base game.
The Prime Rib Mystery
Here’s where things get interesting. The Cow King boss that caps off the secret level drops an item called Prime Rib, and its flavor text is suspiciously specific: “A royal cut of beef, with perfect marbling, a majestic texture, and a regal flavor. Such a prime cut would be a worthy offering to anyone, even to a god.”
That “even to a god” bit feels deliberate. Blizzard rarely includes throwaway item descriptions in secret content, especially something as carefully hidden as the cow level. The Prime Rib could just be a fun keepsake from your bovine beatdown, but it could also be the key to an even deeper layer of this Easter egg. LoatheBurger is already investigating, and if there’s another secret waiting the community will find it.
A Tradition Continues
Secret cow levels have been a Diablo staple since Diablo 2 turned an internet rumor into reality back in 2001. The joke has carried through every game since, sometimes as actual content and sometimes as cheeky references. Diablo 4 keeping the tradition alive with a full secret dungeon (and potentially more) shows Blizzard understands what longtime fans want from these games.
If you’re planning to hunt down this legendary farm yourself, you’ll need Lord of Hatred installed and a fair bit of patience gathering the unlock materials. The Razer DeathAdder V3 Pro makes the farming grind a bit more comfortable with its ergonomic design and responsive sensor, perfect for those extended Sanctuary exploration sessions.
Diablo 4 and the Lord of Hatred expansion are available now on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
