Deck of the Week: Grim Patron Warrior

by - 9 years ago

I realize this is the second Grim Patron Warrior deck we have done in the last few weeks, the first was Yong Woo’s Crazy Trigger deck. However, in the last few weeks it appears Grim Patron has gone from a gimmick, to getting in a place where it’s one of the top decks in the game. In fact, LiquidHearth has recently ranked it as the #1 deck in their recent power rankings.

Now this deck is very difficult to play. You can’t expect to just roll it up and win right off the bat. The deck takes a lot of practice to understand it, and I don’t think even sitting here explaining how to play it will help all that much, but I’ll try to do my best. The deck is all about the combo with Warsong Commander, Grim Patron and Frothing Berserker. You use Unstable Ghoul, Whirlwind, Death’s Bite deathrattle, or even your Cruel Taskmasters to start setting off your combo. If your opponent has a bunch of 1 or 2 attack creatures even better as it allows you to clear their board while filling your own.

The problem however is that the combo can’t be popped until turn 8 unless you are able to pull some Emperor Thaurissan magic.

The other great thing about this deck is it has a lot of draw potential with Battle Rage and Acolyte of Pain.

This is just one variation of the deck, some people like to play with Inner Rage or Commanding Shout in this deck, personally I prefer to have the Sludge Belcher’s myself.

As far as mulligan goes, in pretty much every matchup keeping your weapons and Acolyte of Pain is important. If you’re playing against something more slow like Handlock, Druid, or Priest it’s worth also holding onto Emperor Thaurissan. The Emperor is normally worth keeping in other matchups if you have the coin so you can pop him even earlier.

The Deck List

Grim Patron Warrior
Class: Warrior

Warrior (18)

Neutral (12)

Let me know how your experience has been with the Grim Patron Warrior deck in the comments below. We talked about it some recently on the Well Met! Podcast and we’d love to get your input on it to perhaps talk about it a bit much next week.
