Deck of the Week: Blackrock Depths Edition

by - 9 years ago

With Blackrock Mountain opening up this week, 2 of the cards I was most excited about got released in the first wing. Grim Patron and Emperor Thaurissan (whom I believe is the best card in the set). Add this with Warsong Commander finally getting fixed so that minions that enter the field of play (not just from your hand) get charge, I knew what kind of deck I wanted to build this week.

I started out by taking Warrior Control and mixing in some things to work with Warsong Commander and Grim Patron. The deck is still quite slow like Warrior Control and you have to find yourself to be very patient. When the deck works, it’s glorious – however, it does have some serious problems if you start getting overrun and can’t seem to draw your answers.

Also, I haven’t done so yet, but Battle Rage will probably be taken out of this deck. I tried to make it work and thought it would work gloriously with Grim Patrons all over the board, but it just doesn’t work at all. It’s slot can definitely be filled with something else, perhaps Alexstraza.

Deck List

EVERYONE GET IN HERE!
Class: Warrior

Warrior (16)

Neutral (14)

When I mulligan I normally try to get a Harvest Golem, Fiery War Axe, or Armorsmith in my opening hand. I’ll also normally hold on to Emperor Thaurissan, especially if I have a coin because he’s a huge turn 5 play when you have a stacked hand. Sometimes I will even hold onto Warsong Commander and Grim Patron because drawing into your combo can be tough to do sometimes.

When playing Warsong Commander and Grim Patron it’s best to think out your play. You want to make sure you get the most value you can out of them. Hit and kill their 2 and less attack creatures first, maybe a make a couple new Patrons that way. Then pop your whirlwind or Death’s Bite and get maximum Grim Patronage going. Most the time when I pop off this combo my opponent will just concede because it’s normally late game and I just wiped out their board and have a board of my own completely filled.

Moral of this story is, don’t start a bar fight if you don’t have friends to back you up.

Try out the deck and let me know what you think. Also, let us know what changes you make to it in the comment section below!

Inner rage works great with patron. Same turn buff to 5/2 and get a 3/3. With warsong commander, that’s 8 charge damage. If you have death bite queued up, that’s 14 charge damage.

  2. Nuclein says:

I thought Grim Patron is too weak. But with the change/patch at Warsong <3.

  3. Dannie Ray says:

I’ve found that running at least 1 Raging worgen does great as an alternate win condition.
