Playing For Keeps

by Alebeard on

After the release of the Guldan patch, many people proclaimed this the Age of the Specialist and predicted a rise in the Split Push Meta. While both of these are true to an extent, I think you could just as easily call this the Age of the Catapult. Taking down a Keep and unlocking Catapults is now a game changing event, which means attacking and defending Keeps is more important than ever. Prior to the targeting change, destroying a Keep and gaining Catapults gave your team a nice little advantage, but it wasn’t a win condition in and of itself. Now that has all changed. Catapults can definitely be a win condition. What makes the new Catapults so powerful isn’t just the damage they are able to do, which is significant, but how they force the other team to adjust their play. Once a team has Catapults pushing for them they have effectively ...

Blizzard and Dark Horse released four new comics covering big name characters and events that we’ll be exploring in World of Warcraft: Legion in just one more month. I feel that the meta has shifted towards more aggro decks so the Doomsayer + Elise Starseeker version has become a better choice.  Also, many players in warrior mirrors have figured out that playing around Doomcaller is the best choice of action by using the Sylvanas play. Card discussions 2x Execute: needed to remove minions 2x Shield Slam: removal, works very well with Shield Block and Shieldbearers to remove minions 2x Fiery War Axe: ggainst aggro removes early game minions and doesn’t let opponent build up a board. 1x Slam: used for card draw, to proc executes and remove early game minions. 1x Beckoner of Evil: early game good against aggro, buffs ...

New Announcement Coming July 28th

by JR Cook on

The Hearthstone team just sent out an invite to an event that will be streamed on July 28th, and with it presumably the announcement for the next adventure mode (especially considering the invite literally says they have an unforgettable adventure planned). We have our thoughts that Karazhan will be announced and it looks like a week from Thursday we’ll find out if we’re correct. The event will be streamed at http://twitch.tv/playhearthstone on July 28th at 11:00 PM PDT. The email we received said it’s coming to ChinaJoy so might be the reason for the late time frame. Yes, it says PM and not AM....

Patch Notes TLDR: Winions

by Alebeard on

Have you ever heard the term “Winions”? Get ready to hear it even more now that the new patch has been released. If you aren’t familiar, Winions is a phrase people often use when Minions take down the Core. Arguably the biggest change in the Guldan patch is the buff that Minions have received. Even unaccompanied Minions can now quickly overwhelm Structures, and Heroes with strong push potential are going to be an absolute nightmare when played properly. Not only will normal Minions do more damage, but Catapults will be more effective as well. No longer will they squander their attacks on random minions rather than focusing on the Core. Their increased range also means more damage to the Core as they will no longer be vulnerable to splash damage from the Core attacking minions in front of them. The rise in the power of Minions also means an increased importance ...

Earlier today, a small update to Patch 2.4.2 on the Public Test Realm (PTR) went live. With the few changes listed, it’s clear that things are wrapping up. Especially since we already know the end of Season 6 and start of Season 7 dates, we can guesstimate that Patch 2.4.2 will likely arrive on August 2nd, 2016. Below, you’ll find the latest adjustments. Pay special attention to the Energy Twister change; this just may be the final adjustment/fix that  ends the reign of the Twister Wizard meta....

Last week was a bit light on the news since it was a short week in the US with Independence Day taking place on Monday and celebration recovery day on Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean there was no news out of Blizzard. Tyvalir returned to the Diablo community team after dabbling in the Koprulu Sector for a bit with the StarCraft II team, there was an announcement that the end of Season 6 would be happening July 22nd, and to make up for an “unintended feature” which prevented certain cosmetic items from dropping the D3 team added a Double Blood Shard weekend to help make up for it. The latest episode of the Well Met! podcast went on in spite of a temporarily missing cohost, Gul’dan hit the PTR in Heroes of the Storm, Overwatch continues to hint at a new hero who may be announced at or prior to ...

Another week of 2016 bites the dust and with it comes a new crop of news from the various Blizzard titles. Along with these changes we saw hints of the next hero to potentially enter the Nexus and possible upcoming changes to Health Sustain. Have you ever longed for the old days of Star Craft? No, I’m not talking about like Wings of Liberty. I’m talking Brood War. The classic age where juggernauts would collide in fantastic contests of skill and management. There is a channel on twitch right now that is streaming 6344 VODs of Brood War 27/4, for the most part, including shows like Bnet Attack where a pro heads into battle.net to fight with random bnet patrons. The downside is that the vast majority of it is in Korean, but from time to time you catch a few english spoken games. I’ve caught some Tastetosis in their early days watching this channel. It’s a great little channel that isn’t nearly getting enough love for what it brings to the table. Go Check it out! https://www.twitch.tv/medrybw...

Patch 3.2.0 Patch Notes

by Crow on

Packaged along with the release of the first mission pack for the Nova DLC pack, these patch notes have a lot of content completely unrelated to Nova’s novert covert ops. Highlights include: A new Co-Op Missions map has been added, along with some balance shifts in Co-op Mission mode. Trophy Tops have been added to Automated Tournaments, and the 30-minute game timer no longer impacts the final game of the tournament. A host of bug fixes and UI improvements. And, of course, Nova Covert Ops, for folks who have purchased the DLC. Read the full patch notes below....
